Just pop in

I was fortunate to have excellent care for breast cancer at Charing Cross hospital but it was a 3 hour round trip from Northwood on public transport. There are inevitably worries during treatment and regular check-ups. The lovely staff at Charing Cross would end each appointment with "if you have any concerns, just pop in". They were always rather taken aback when I told them what that would involve.I had my first chemo there and then asked to be transferred to Mount Vernon for the rest of my chemo and subsequent medication (injections) because I was worried about how I would feel travelling home from Charing Cross.

Having my treatment and consultations closer to home at Mount Vernon was invaluable. As the months went on the fatigue increased and I was obviously immunosuppressed and less keen to travel on public transport. In the months that followed having Herceptin injections at Mount Vernon meant that I didn't have to take a half-day off work each time. I was also much happier being able to travel by car.
